Campbell Trophy, he completed his medical degree at the University of Washington and a residency in orthopaedic surgery, followed by a sports medicine fellowship. He now serves as an orthopaedic surgeon, team physician for Washington State athletics, and clinical instructor at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Jim Hansen played offensive tackle for the Colorado Buffaloes, earning First-Team All-Big Eight honors and the William V. Campbell Trophy as college football’s top scholar-athlete. At Colorado he balanced aerospace engineering with elite football performance before earning a Rhodes Scholarship and a doctorate at Oxford. Today he leads the Marine Meteorology Division at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, applying the discipline and teamwork from the field to scientific research supporting national operations.
