Former Wartburg College Linebacker
Owen Grover was a standout linebacker at Wartburg College, leading the Knights with 353 career tackles and earning First-Team All-America honors while helping guide the program to back-to-back deep postseason runs. A 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy finalist and winner of the Cliff Harris Award as one of Division III’s top defenders, he graduated with a 3.99 GPA in biology. Grover enrolled at the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine to pursue a career as a physician.

Tyler Sullivan quarterbacked Delta State and was named a 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy finalist, recognized nationally for his success in the classroom and on the field. A multi-year starter and offensive leader, he balanced football with academic distinction. After his playing career, Sullivan pursued medicine and is now a fellow at UAB.
Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon Former Washington State Running Back
Ed Tingstad played running back at Washington State, earning Academic All-Pac-10 honors before going on to a career in medicine. A recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy, he completed his medical degree at the University of Washington and a residency in orthopaedic surgery, followed by a sports medicine fellowship. He now serves as an orthopaedic surgeon, team physician for Washington State athletics, and clinical instructor at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Craig Mahoney is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and joint reconstruction . As a tight end at Iowa State and Campbell Trophy Finalist, he learned the physical and mental demands of preparation, resilience, and trust in teammates. Football’s emphasis on toughness and detail now informs the way he approaches patient care and leadership in medicine.

Gregg Carr was a standout linebacker at Auburn, earning All-America honors and helping lead the Tigers during one of the program’s strongest stretches in the early 1980s. After football, Carr pursued medicine and is now a practicing physician, building a career in healthcare following his time on the field.

Burger played offensive guard at Notre Dame as a walk-on from the 1977 national championship team, earned First-Team Academic All-America honors and the Dolly Cohen scholar-athlete award, and now serves as a leading orthopaedic surgeon and team physician.
